Below are photographs I took of LeBron James for the Creative Commons under the 3.0 attribution license. Click on the photo to download a larger size. James was in town to promote the film More Than a Game. From Wikipedia:
More Than a Game is a 2009 documentary that follows NBA superstar LeBron James and four of his talented teammates through the trials and tribulations of high school basketball in Ohio and James’ journey to fame. The trailer was released in April featuring the single Stronger by Mary J. Blige, which she released in support of the film. The soundtrack titled Music Inspired by More Than a Game will be released September 28, 2009.

The United States Geological Survey put out this illustration of geological time that is worth sharing. It starts from nothing, and then spirals up showing the evolution of species and epochs. It is today’s Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Day. Click on it to make it huge and get more detail; it’s well worth it. For instance, in the Devonian Period–right in the center of the picture–you can see a little amphibian starting to crawl out of the water:

Hey Andy Schlafly: like I said, the image is PD, so you can upload it to Conservapedia.

Earlier in the week I wrote about Ice-T and his wife Coco at the premiere of Mandy Stein’s Burning Down the House, a documentary that explores the scene that surrounded the famed music venue CBGB. Stein’s mother, Linda Stein, was the manager of the club’s most famous band, the Ramones; tragically, Linda was bludgeoned to death in 2007. She was a fixture in the New York music scene, and she is missed.
Below are some shots of some of the people who turned out for the premiere (as with all of my photography, these images are licensed Creative Commons):
