Some of the people I have photographed present unique circumstances. With some, such as Uma Thurman, they move so quickly down the red carpet that it it is hard to capture them in a flattering way.
With others, I have several good portraits, but none that cry out “I’m perfect!”
I had the latter problem with Mary-Kate Olsen. I find her fascinating because she has lived a life few other people can ever imagine. I allow her wide latitude with problems she encounters in life. It has to be very difficult to always be in the public eye, with every stumble relentlessly reported. And to never have known different.
I wanted to find the perfect Mary-Kate portrait from Tribeca. The one to the right is the one I decided was the ideal capture for her Wikipedia article lead. Below were the runners-up, in order of preference.

Mary-Kate Olsen (born June 13, 1986) is a Daytime Emmy Award-nominated American actress, producer, fashion model and fashion designer. She has had a successful acting career beginning at a very young age, in roles with her twin sister Ashley Olsen.

I looked through my 2008 Tribeca Film Festival photos at the premiere of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s Baby Mama and found some new shots to upload for the Creative Commons.

Liya Kebede – (born January 3, 1980) is an Ethiopian model who has appeared on the cover of US Vogue twice. According to Forbes, Kebede was the eleventh highest-paid model in the world.

Justin Theroux – (born August 10, 1971) is an American actor, screenwriter and director.

Sigourney Weaver – (born October 8, 1949) is an Academy Award-nominated American actress, best known for her roles as Lt. Ellen Ripley in the Alien film series and as Dana Barrett in the Ghostbusters movies.

Chevy Chase – (born October 8, 1943) is an American Emmy Award-winning comedian, writer, and television and film actor. Born into a prominent family, Chase quickly became a key cast member in the inaugural season of Saturday Night Live, where his Weekend Update skit quickly became a staple of the show. Chase is also well known for his portrayal of the character Clark Griswold in four National Lampoon’s Vacation films.

The Farrelly brothers, perhaps most respected for their wildly hilarious comedy There’s Something About Mary, also involve themselves in more dramatic fare. Former Major League Baseball pitcher Luis Tiant returned to Cuba after 46 years of exile, and the Farrellys produced a documentary directed by Jonathan Hock about the experience, called The Lost Son of Havana. ESPN has acquired the TV rights to this 2009 Tribeca Film Festival entry. The stars came out for its premiere, including Larry David, Chris Cooper, Matt Dillon (photo provided in this earlier post), the Farrellys and Tiant himself.

Farrelly brothers – are screenwriters and directors of ten comedy films, including There’s Something About Mary; Dumb and Dumber; Kingpin; Me, Myself & Irene; Shallow Hal; Stuck on You; Osmosis Jones; Fever Pitch (also known as The Perfect Catch outside of America) and The Heartbreak Kid.

Peter Farrelly is also a published novelist, with works including Outside Providence and The Comedy Writer.

Bobby Farrelly, along with his brother, conceived of the Seinfeld episode “The Virgin”

Larry David was voted by fellow comedians and comedy insiders number 23 of the top 50 greatest comedy acts ever in a poll to select “The Comedian’s Comedian.” David was nominated for a 2006 Emmy Best Actor Award.

Chris Cooper is an Academy Award-winning American film actor. He became well known in the late 1990s, having appeared in supporting performances in several major Hollywood films, including the Oscar-nominated American Beauty, Capote, October Sky, Seabiscuit, and Breach.

Luis Tiant is a former right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Cleveland Indians (1964-1969), Minnesota Twins (1970), Boston Red Sox (1971-1978), New York Yankees (1979-80), Pittsburgh Pirates (1981) and California Angels (1982).

One of the few major realms of New York City I never took on as a project was its business sector. I don’t even have a gallery set up for it. Through the years, however, I have collected enough business celebrities it may be time to start one. (As with all of my photography, these images are licensed Creative Commons):

Julie Chen and Les Moonves
Julie Suzanne Chen is an American television personality, news anchor, journalist, and producer for CBS. She has 14 years of newscasting experience. She is best known for co-anchoring CBS’s The Early Show, alongside Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez. She has been the host of the U.S. version of Big Brother since its debut in July 2000. Chen stated in April 2009 that she and her husband are expecting their first child, with her due date in October 2009. She stated that she wouldn’t be taking medical leave and would continue to present Big Brother during her pregnancy
Leslie Moonves is President and Chief Executive Officer of CBS Corporation. Moonves served as co-president and co-chief operating officer of Viacom, Inc., the predecessor to CBS Corporation, from 2004 until the company split on December 31, 2005. Prior to that he had been in a series of executive positions for CBS since July 1995.

Some of America’s brightest talent from the writing, theatre and motion picture industries showed up to support the premiere of Barry Levinson’s Poliwood. Levinson, best known for his critically and commercially successful Rain Man, explores politics in his new work, in which he also stars. According to CNN:
In the Academy Award-winning filmmaker’s new documentary “PoliWood,” Levinson takes a look at the world of policymakers and screen actors and ends up voicing his own ideas in the process.
“The fact that my voice is in it always scares me to death, because I never like to be on camera, period,” Levinson said. (The “Rain Man” director has appeared in a handful of films, notably the Robert Redford-directed “Quiz Show.”)
In “PoliWood,” Levinson follows a group of politically active actors to the Democratic and Republican conventions as they take in the theater of it all. The journey leads to President Obama’s inauguration.
Levinson’s oeuvre has long held respect by artists involved in entertainment. Below are the new portrait shots that are now found on Wikipedia (as with all of my photography, these images are licensed Creative Commons):
