Billy Joel opening night of the 2009 Metropolitan Opera

The 2009-10 Metropolitan Opera season opened with famed Director Luc Bondy’s new staging of Puccini’s classic opera Tosca. (which didn’t receive the best reviews – it was booed, of all things!).

I grew up in New Jersey, and Billy Joel’s music is as synonymous with the culture of the state as Springsteen’s and Bon Jovi’s.  You can’t grow up in Colorado and not like John Denver; and you can’t grow up in New Jersey and not like Billy Joel.  Not if you’re human.

Below are photographs I took of Joel (along with one of his new girlfriend, Deborah Dampiere) for the Creative Commons under the 3.0 attribution license. They are now available on Wikipedia and my Flickr Creative Commons stream.

Is it just me or does Billy Joel look like someone just asked him about the divine-looking amuse-bouche?
