East Village Mosaic Man Jim Power on St. Mark’s Place
I caught the famous East Village artist Jim Power, also known as the “Mosaic Man”, working on a lamp post during the St. Mark’s Place Block Party.
Here are photos of a downtown New York City legend, whose is responsible for landmarking many spots around the East Village:

It is the unexpected art in the most unsuspecting places that always catches my eye. I am interested in knowing if you talked to him? Does his art send a message or is it a personal expression of his own artistry?
He just loves his city, his city is not Manhattan his city is the East Village, & it’s his way of makin it look good & stand out. He started in the early/mid 80′s if I remember well. I met him a few times while I was down there (I’m from Montreal). He was honnored by the city a few years ago, he’s real proud of the plaque the mayor/city gave him.

He’s a neighborhood institution.
I wish my hair looked that good.

Bobby, I didn’t talk to him because I like to be more of an observer and try not to break that wall. Here’s a local paper’s story about his work.
Thanks Dave! I loved the article and I like his take on why he puts his Art out there for everyone!
